My son has asked me to upgrade his CanaryMod server to support the 1.9 client and from what I can see looking at the code, this will require code changes. Is someone already working on this or is this something I can work on with my son?

If it is something that we can work on, can someone point me at where we should start?

CanaryLib is in the process of being updated, @darkdiplomat will be able to give you more information about CanaryMod.

Although I intend to support Minecraft 1.8.9 for a little longer, there is a 1.9 branch for NeptuneVanilla - https://github.com/NeptunePowered/NeptuneVanilla/tree/1.9
