Sprint review and sprint revision for JS101 app

Our second Agile session. Thanks once again @msajara for facilitating it! I think we are sold on this approach now :)

See our updated board here: https://github.com/CodeHubOrg/organisations-database/projects/1

Sprint review (about the 'What')
Quick overview:

  • Clientside form validation done
  • Option to add tags working, but no specific functionality so far (looking up/suggesting exisiting tags etc), also not yet searching through added tags
  • Tests working, but those for components removed for the time being
  • Authentication (signing in step) working on JS101 site which was a test ground, found good tutorial to implement it on the app, started on that (using Passport and JSON web tokens)
  • Claudia presented a design proposal for mobile version of the app, and also suggestions for a logo. She also suggested the name 'pinJS' which we have adopted now! Design proposal here:
  • Was not a task, but staging site now online here https://resources.javascript101.co.uk and here: https://glitch.com/edit/#!/speckle-flat; webpack upgraded, plus option to run dev or production
    Todo:
  • Styles: Add Sass processing to site; research options for CSS grids to replace bootstrap
  • UX for desktop
  • Linting and Code Style
  • Refactoring!
  • Persistence layer and other tasks we have on product backlog

Sprint revision (about the 'How')
Feedback was generally very positive. Some comments:

  • System works
  • good dynamic
  • 'deadline' makes you focus
  • inclusive

@msajara also asked us to each write one word on a card. I remember 'okay', 'relieved', 'hopeful', 'clarity'

Things that could be improved:

  • As it's voluntary, there is some uncertainty about commitment
  • Limit to what current members can do in terms of code review, need more expertise

Actions

  • At each JS101 session, first hour will now be dedicated to the app
  • 4 weeks sprints; so every 4 weeks a review like this, up to an hour long
  • The sessions inbetween, have a more informal chat ("pinJS Happy hour")
  • Find mentors who could help with certain aspects (refactoring ?!), they could come over for an hour round lunchtime; or could perhaps come for one morning
  • Strategy for newcomers: Should feel included but not overwhelmed; a good way might be to ask feedback ("user research") - something we've actually done before

Note: After 18 July we will only meet again after 4 weeks, on 15 August
