I have some rooms where the valves might sit at 5% or 10%, unnecessarily.
I had been using a calculation of all valves to dictate if heating would be on or off but I have altered slightly.
I now have the following:
What I have here is a sensor from the valve open position. I test that every 15 seconds to see if its value and a decision is made on if that = On or Off. So most are 15% but one is set at 25%. If it is higher, the radiator is ON. Each Radiator valve is a new binary sensor in my Home Assistant.
The radiators that I want to be involved in making the decision (all but Dining Room in my case) are then in a group and so if any are ON then there is a demand for heat and the boiler will activate based on other automations.
The boiler is then controlled simply by the radiator demand being on or off. This method gives me a bit of control where rooms are more or less sensitive, and also where valves behave in different ways....for whatever reason. Cheap Chinese tat probably.
I have a smart nest that's now dumb as I simply tell it to be high or low target temp. Could be on or off I suppose but it still allows another heat control over the valves not handled via a TRV. SO if it s really cold, and drops below the target it will still warm those rooms, hall, bathrooms etc.
