Well, you make it sound like we flipped a coin to choose FreeDNS. FreeDNS offers us free domains and serves 5 free subdomains for each user. And each one of those subdomains could be on a different domain. There are thousands of different domain served of FreeDNS to choose from. You are right that there are cons with FreeDNS. it is not all positive. We can consider alternatives if there are any suggestions. If you want to set up Nightscout for yourself, you have many other options. You can even set up a server in your basement with your own private domain. Our objective was to create a setup that is reasonably easy to use and maintain. There is a lot to address if you were to do that. If anyone can come up with a scheme to allow users to use their private domains, we can consider it. But, this has to be possible without complicating the maintenance. The disadvantages of FreeDNS are: You can set up two Nightscout sites instead of one using two different Google accounts. |

Would it be possible to use Google Cloud for Nightscout in a way that doesn't use freeDNS?
First - I want to say that providing this method for us to use GC has been very helpful and I appreciate all those who have (and continue to) put their time into this. I know I definitely couldn't have done it.
I'm not a developer, but I'd like to use a domain of my own, not freedns. Are any of you out there able to make it possible?
I don't love that I need another login and another complication for my nightscout. I don't love that I'm limited to the bizarre domains that are there and that they are potentially subject to a block. I'd much rather have a meaningful domain for my nightscout.
Thanks for looking into it and contributing.
