• the corresponding adb commands
• device settings UI
• this app

The tool configures the settings.global property which is a very annoying thing to troubleshoot. If you configure the proxy via this, it doesn't show up anywhere in the actual OS and I've lost many hours figuring out why my setup wasn't working. The project itself also warns against this at the bottom.

I also don't see the added value over using the adb command directly?

We have proxydroid currently, but it only works on a rooted device. But there are some apps that use a combination of DNS + VPN to intercept traffic; those would be a better addition than this app. Eg: https://github.com/celzero/rethink-app
