Is opening a new Excel file from a Word web add-in even possible?

I have tried several things without luck. But, the main thing is that my code hits Excel.createWorkbook(); it thows an error saying that Excel is not defined. I can do whatever I can with Word.whateverNeeded() but not with Excel.anotherThingNeeded()

What do I need to add in order for the Excel namespace to be recognized there? What I am trying to do here is that my Word Add-in grabs data from the active document and place that data into a new Excel workbook.

Can somebody please help me?

Hi @ricardoba13,

There is no way to access application-specific APIs for other hosts within a particular application. You might be able to achieve your scenario using the Open in Excel pattern. Instead of having a website launch the populated spreadsheet, your Word add-in would do that.

As far as the direct export functionality you're asking for, I'd ask you create a feature request on in the M365 Developer Platform Tech Community. That will help us gauge community interest and prioritize appropriately.
