Use semantic versioning system and publish on PyPI/Conda-forge

This library has been growing much more in the past few months. It would be a good practice to use a versioning approach that allows for easier tracking of changes and facilitates (or better yet requires) that Pull Requests update the summary of changes for each new feature.

Publishing this on PyPI would necessitate streamlining the installation process.
