The latest version of this project may have a bug. I have loaded it several times but the "object detection" node NEVER enumerates correctly!

According to all the web sites using this project the "object detection" node should have 2 outputs. The top one gives the modified video stream and the bottom one gives text output to take action. No matter how many times I have tried this, all my containers are instantiated and running. Connecting "video input" from a local Logitech USB camera to "video view" works as expected. When I try the "object detection" node, it NEVER gives me 2 outputs. It says that it is "detecting" with the blue message below but I do not get any video output sent to a second "video view" block.

Please could some kind soul give me some advice regarding how to fix this problem and please check to see if a bug has been introduced?

I am running Jetpack 4.6.6 on Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS with Docker version 20.10.21, build 20.10.21-0 on my Seeed Studio reComputer J1010 with a 4 GB Jetson Nano.

Your current environment (Ubuntu 18.04 and JetPack 4.6.6) is not supported by the latest version of Node-RED. For further assistance, you can contact tech support at [email protected].

So what you are saying is that these Docker containers have host dependencies and in order to make this project work, I will need to make changes to the host OS. Is my understanding of my problem correct?

Thank you for your response! To clarify, the issue you're encountering is due to the fact that the latest version of Node.js does not support Ubuntu 18.04. Since Node-RED relies on Node.js, it also becomes unsupported on Ubuntu 18.04. The problem is not related to Docker itself, but rather the underlying system dependencies. To resolve this, you may need to upgrade your host OS to a supported version.

Please advise me what would be the recommended Ubuntu version that I should upgrade to so that this project works as described here. I can easily follow this procedure, https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/how-to-upgrade-your-release once I know where to stop. Would Ubuntu 20.04 LTS create a stable environment? Which version of Node.js must be installed on the host?

The latest version of Node-RED requires upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04, but unfortunately, the Jetson Nano does not support upgrading to 20.04. For further assistance, you can contact tech support at [email protected].
