Extension is not currently available from the Chrome Web Store:

This extension is no longer available because it doesn't follow best practices for Chrome extensions.

Yep, no longer works as well.

Not only does this extension no longer work, but it is still included in the Shopify documentation and to top it all off, 31% of the development assessment test that cost $149Assessment relies on the use of this tool. Folks on the chrome store page have been complaining for the past 3 years that this does not work. Shopify should spend less on commercials and more on fixing their stuff up.

Assessment breakdown
....
Liquid optimization: 31%

Identify and fix common errors when writing Liquid code using theme check and theme inspector
Test Liquid performance using the Flamegraph and interpret results
Describe basic performance optimization techniques when building themes

I have repeatedly reached out to shopify support about this. What sucks, is I paid for this assessment, and now I am wondering if I should even take it.

I hear a new extension and profiler is in the works and will be out soon!

Shopify should be communicating this, instead of playing a game of "find the clues"

Very fair feedback @bansavage — both Mathieu and I (and others) try to be as transparent as possible on X, but this area is evolving quickly. As an update to the above, we've temporarily removed the question from the Shopify Academy course, and will add it back when the CLI based approach ships — which should be in the next CLI release (planned for end of this month).

Again very fair that in an ideal world we'd have more official comms than replies on X. There's likely a better way for us to talk about upcoming developer tools in a public and discoverable forum. Will think on that.

Thanks @benjaminsehl
For futher comms, I suggest using the new forum Shopify has released: https://community.shopify.dev/, along with Shopify Partner Slack

👋 hi folks, thanks again for your feedback -- in addition to adding this as a command to the CLI, the chrome extension should be available again to download from the chrome store.

i'll be closing this issue but please re open if you're still unable to install the chrome extension

I had to uninstall and redownload the new Chrome extension. Confirming it is working, albeit with an unexpected UI/devtooling change.

  1. What are you plans to ensure this stays maintained and will not lapse into decay like the previous iteration?
  2. Also when can we expected updated docs on the tool?
