[bug]: Transfer Flow doesn't work and resulted in original Start9 OS SSD corruption #2815

StartOS Version

0.3.5.1 (latest)

Client OS

MacOS

Current Behavior

I needed to upgrade my Start9 server SSD storage with a larger size SDD disk but the Tranfer process failed resulting in both inability to successfully copy my StartOS data to the new drive and also resulted in original SDD drive data corruption.

Expected Behavior

To be able to successfully finish the last two steps in the Transfer flow:

  1. Your data will now transfer. Keep in mind that the more data you have, the longer this process will take, possibly even days.
  2. You are now ready to proceed and use your server with its new drive! It will have the same addresses and root certificate as it did before migrating.

Steps to Reproduce

I followed the guide provided in the official documentation page. As stated there I went through the steps chronologically as is:

Power Down and Exchange Hardware

  1. Start by shutting down your server
  2. Remove power and extract the existing drive from your device.
  3. Install the new drive, ideally in the same hardware slot as the previous drive. Be sure to secure with screws if applicable. (used the same type of drive and port respectively)

Flash StartOS and Transfer Data

  1. Flash your device with a fresh install of StartOS by following our flashing guides.
  2. Head to http://start.local/ from any device on the same LAN.
  3. Select “Recover”.
  4. Select “Transfer”.
  5. Now plug in the old drive to your server, using an adapter if necessary.
  6. Select the old drive - the one that is externally connected to your server, which you are migrating from.
  7. Select the new drive (installed earlier) that you are migrating to.
  8. You will be asked to create your master password. It can be the same as it was previously, or a new one. (entered the same password)

Then I got the following error:

Which resulted in both inability to continue with the SDD transfer process and original SDD corruption (as it was written in one of the steps with bold letters.
