Checklist

  • I made sure that there are no existing issues - open or closed - which I could contribute my information to.
  • I have read the FAQ and my problem isn't listed.
  • I'm aware that this is a request for NewPipe itself and that requests for adding a new service need to be made at NewPipeExtractor.
  • I have taken the time to fill in all the required details. I understand that the feature request will be dismissed otherwise.
  • This issue contains only one feature request.
  • I have read and understood the contribution guidelines.

Feature description

Filter shorts visibility in search index, feeds or in the whole NewPipe app in order to give the user more control over the controversial content of YouTube shorts.

One idea on how these could be added is as settings in the "content" section of the app settings or, in the case of filtering search results, as filtering option when performing a search through the search bar, from the dropdown menù in the top right corner.

Ideally would be great to decide where to make the shorts be visible or not: news, subscriptions, feeds, search indexing etc, but having them on/off completely looks like an easiest feature to add.

Why do you want this feature?

I'm sure i'm not the only one to have found how annoying can be shorts in your home feeds or when you are searching for something: i remember some years ago you could search for something and get full videos plus some shorts, now you get hundreds of shorts, which get sorted more because ironically they have more views, and way less actual content at the top of your feed / search indexing...

I'm strongly against any kind of short/stories/reels content, i think it's such a different content from the normal youtube videos and i hate to find it everywhere, but i understand someone may still want to see such content, therefore we can leave this to the user, while adding an option to remove it for who considers it less important and is favouring other type of content.

Additional information

I wasn't sure if this was the right place to post a feature request, or if newpipe extractor would be more appropriate, so sorry if this was misplaced.

I was careful to see if there were similar issues open or closed but didn't find anything, sorry again if this is a duplicate.

Would have loved to see if i could somehow contribute at least a bit and create a pr with such features, but this is all in Java and i know ZERO of it, also have no experience in coding android apps, though i would love to learn...

Yeah, this is a duplicate of several different issues which separately talk of filtering search, feed, etc. You can follow them individually.
