At least here it seems to do nothing - verions 1.9

Did you go into preferences afterwards and click "save"?

No... that's rather non-obvious?
If that's required, it would be better with another button to tick in the preferences, rather than a menu.

It's because there can be multiple windows, so if it was in the preferences there would be no indication of which window you are getting the settings of. It snapshots straight away (so all new windows will be the same), but to save it for next time the settings need to be saved. It is documented. I'm not sure how to make this clearer, so if you have any ideas?
