(for many years e.g. 10y+) we have seen that data portals can and should be much more than just a catalog of raw data. They should be for sharing insights and data stories as well as datasets.
And these two features support each other: stories without the raw source data are untransparent and ungrounded. Conversely, datasets need context and stories to bring them alive, to make them meaningful, to enable them to be understood.
This discussion thread is about fleshing out this point and turning it into a post.
