There were very few spatial recaptures for SODO (~4 in total). I used a moderately informative half normal prior on sigma (halfnorm(3, 2)). But the data pulled it close to zero and resulted in a bimodal posterior. Options:

  1. Stronger prior (e.g. gamma(3, 2) or gamma(4, 1)) - requires info on home range size to justify
  2. Dummer prior (e.g. uniform(0, 10)) - seems silly unless there's truly no known info
  3. Don't do analysis for SODO because so few recaps

@nthaydt Can you please gather any info on home range size for SODO or anything in the same genus so we can try a more informative prior?

Found the attached paper (Pérez-Pérez et al. 2017). It includes a table with literature values for home ranges (table 4) and a table with distances moved (table 5) for SODO and related species.

Here is a link to a table with additional information for home range/movement literature values (CPIC and SODO included so far).
