Dear @yantosca

I hope this message finds you well.

I have recently started using the APM and I am currently researching sea salt, POC (primary organic carbon), and POA (primary organic aerosol). I have encountered a couple of questions during my research. Firstly, I noticed that there is the same concentration value for SpeciesConcVV_APMSEABIN01 through SpeciesConcVV_APMSEABIN20. I am wondering if this is expected or if there might be an issue with the data. When I used the POC data, I encountered the same issue. I have only saved the values of SpeciesConcVV_APMSEABIN01 through SpeciesConcVV_APMSEABIN20 in the attached GEOSChem.SpeciesConc.20190921_0000z.nc4 file.

Secondly, regarding the AerMassPOA in the attached picture, it is described as 'Mass of lumped aerosol primary SV0Cs(0A:0C=2.1)'. Does this imply that the ratio of POA to POC is 2.1:1.0? I am using APM version 14.3.0 and have included the relevant files for your reference.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Best regards,
Baihua Chen

Hi @yantosca . Shall I continue to wait for the reply from @ganluoasrc ? I appreciate your help.

Thanks @ChenBHXMU. I am not an expert in APM so we defer to @ganluoasrc who is the developer.

Hi @yantosca, thanks for tagging. Still out for conference.

Hi @ChenBHXMU, it is abnormal. The values of bin1 is usually very different from bin20 since their sizes are different. GEOS-Chem assumed POA=2.1*POC.

Best,

G.

Hi @ganluoasrc May I ask how I should solve this problem? Thank you for your help!

Hi @ganluoasrc I found the SpeciesConc.frequency and SpeciesConc.duration were set to 00000100 000000, the results are normal. But these values were set to 00000001 000000, the results seemed abnormal.

@ChenBHXMU , it looks like a history out issue for species concentrations. @yantosca may know who coded this part and how to correctly config the input settings.

Best,

G.

@yantosca @ganluoasrc Sorry, I set the SpeciesConc.frequency and SpeciesConc.duration in the HISTORY.rc file on the server to 00000100 000000, but the concentrations in each bin are still the same. However, when I made these settings on my local computer, the output was correct. I am still investigating why the results are incorrect on the local server.

Strangely, I regenerated a case and ran ./gcclassic --dryrun > log.dryrun, followed by ./download_data.py log.dryrun --washu, which displayed the following.

When I ran ./gcclassic | tee GC.log again, it showed that some files were missing. Previously, there was no prompt indicating missing files. Do I need to manually download these data?

However, I'm not sure how to download them. My GEOS-Chem version is 14.3.0.

Thanks for your patience @ChenBHXMU. Yes, I would download the missing data manually. We may not have validated the dry-run with the APM simulation as not too many people use that.

I would not be able to advise why results look abnormal, as that lies outside of my expertise.

@yantosca I'm so sorry, I don't know how to manually download the "APM_data_201906" folder via the command line.
