Here, I describe the tools we're going to build this project. I expect that we start sometime within the last quarter of the year, however, I suggest that we start familiarizing ourselves with the technologies that you will be using. If you have any concerns ever, do not hesitate to ask a question. Either in-person, or here on the discussions page. (See the Q&A channel)

I don't expect you all to be on top of things immediately, if you can make at least one exploration and learn something, that's enough for this week.

If I've made a mistake, or if you'd like to change the selections for your teams, don't hesitate to let me know. If you'd like to intern for a team, you can do that as well.

Also, within this thread, comment some ideas you have for the bus project. What is it that you'd like to see? Or what is something you wouldn't want to see? What'll make it more attractive to use?

Backend Engineering

Things to learn:

• Kotlin - the language we'll use to build the server and business logic
• Ktor, a Kotlin web framework
• Basic data structures
• REST API architecture
• HTTP Basics - we'll be using the HTTP protocol to send data from computer to computer
• Git - we'll be using Git to manage and control the versions of code
• GitHub - how we can use this platform to organize ourselves

Frontend Development

Website:

• JavaScript, or TypeScript if you are confident - the language of the web
• Svelte.js - a framework for making user interfaces easier

Mobile App:

• Kotlin - the language we'll use to build the server and business logic
• Ktor, a Kotlin web framework
• Android development with Kotlin - we'll first start on Android since there are more resources
• Android Studio - a recommended coding platform, or IDE, to use Android

UI/UX Design

• Figma - a graphic design service made to be shared with developers
• Material 3 UI Design Guide - how-tos and inspo.
• Android Mobile Design Guide - how to think about the app + good ideas
