Blank canvas with JupyterLab 4.0.0a30 #12

Steps to reproduce

  • Create a conda environment on top of mamba-forge with the following environment file:

    name: test-xcanvas

channels:
- conda-forge

dependencies:
- mamba
- jupyterlab
- cxx-compiler
- xeus-cling
- xcanvas
- y-py
- pip
- pip:
    - jupyterlab==4.0.0a30

  • Open xcanvas' demo notebook

  • Execute the cells

  • The canvas appears (and changing its height actually has an effect). Yet the canvas remains blank.

For the record: I just noticed jupyterlab 4.0.0a31 is out. Same symptoms.

Also here is the output of the labextention status. Which includes an
incompatibility warning about jupyter-widgest/jupyterlab-manager which
might well be the cause.

May be related: in the same environment, I get the following xwidgets error:
