Are you planning to use your driver for creation of grib-files?
Otherwise I'd be really interested if you've had bad experience with the grib-support currently shipped with gdal.

We're not planning to add write support at the moment since we don't need it but we'd be more than happy to merge a PR :).
This is not really meant to be a replacement of the official GRIB driver shipped with GDAL. The reason we're not using the official one is because it can't open the grib2 files produced by AEMET (probably due to the weird message format they have). We were using grib-api to read them "out-of-band" in our workflow and decided to write a simple GDAL driver to ease integration.
