I tried the instructions on the MS docs web page, I tried the instructions here too.
I copied the .css file and .js file to c:\ADFSStyles (a dir I created).
I applied the first command line - I get zero formatting (everything is plain text in top left corner)
I applied the second command line - and my original default theme (that was modified for logo, illustration, signon text etc) not the centered theme.
I have remove the custom theme and tried multiple times.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks @dbaars that worked, copied the text into notepad and saved in unicode format, would this still indicate an issue with the files?
Also the Set-AdfsWebTheme -TargetName default -Illustration @{path="c:\Contoso\illustration.png"} command doesn't seem to work - i still have plain blue background, any ideas on that?
--edit really documentation at the end of a java script file ?!---
I tried the command documented at the end of the paginatedOnload.js - the first PSH seems to work;
I uncommented the last line of the file, i reran the command to add the .js file resource.
still no picture
--edit 2--
ok after seeing errors in the network trace i recreated the files on a different machine using chrome and notepad++ instead of the IE and notepad on the server.
Not sure what happened, but it fixed something as the username from AAD is now preserved on redirect from MS, i still have a blue background (though the shade of blue changed to slightly darker one) and the pusername hint messgae format is borked as it is on two lines, sigh i give up, going back to classic theme, this is only a demo environment.
