Coffee anyone? (How to donate) #16870
Comments
I don't know of any but @jospoortvliet is the one to talk to I guess 😃 |
I heard rumors that if you can catch @tobiasKaminsky, @AndyScherzinger or me during one of the events and get us coffee/wine/beer we'll implement a small pet feature for you. But I hear those are just rumours, nothing more. |
What events would that be? |
Hackweeks, conferences, stuff like that. |
35c3? |
Neither of us are there :( |
First thanks for wanting to support us 👍 🎉 |
@jospoortvliet are there infos abouth how to donate to the whole project, wiki, etc.? |
Hi, I found a liberapay account for nextcloud: I assume that's the solution for this issue. But, as it is not linked anywhere on nextcloud website, nor on the github repository, I'll just be happy to have confirmation that this account is owned by the nextcloud team. Thanks. |
@jospoortvliet can you say if this acount is run by Nextcloud (or an imposter)? |
Or @jancborchardt as you are also aware of our all community related stuff? |
@daraelmin I can confirm that this is our official account. @jancborchardt maybe we should do a central wiki on server? |
@tobiasKaminsky we could add a button to our readme too (or any/most repos in the org) |
We could, but if (for any reason) we have to change it, we have to change it on dozen places, so one central place is better in my opinion. |
Maybe if all the buttons are linked to a webpage "how to donate" on the nextcloud repos (or anywhere else), it could ne a way to centralize the information. And it can be the way to list all the other alternatives (like bountysource). Anyway, thanks for the conformation ans for the great work you all are doing. I'll use liberapay. |
The Liberapay account is ours, but we are not using it at the moment due to their donation structure. The donations go to individuals registered on Liberapay, which means that atm all donations to Nextcloud would go to me which is of course wrong. Then all of us would have to register, but then still it can't be donated to volunteers. I had a chat with the Liberapay folks but don't really have the time to handle this. At this point I recommend using Bountysource to donate to specific issues you would like to see fixed. :) |
Hi, But you should consider that not all of us have something to request. I'm just using Nextcloud for over five years and it seems to me that I should pay for the work. @jancborchardt hope you'll enjoy the coffee ! ;-) |
I move this into server repo, as it has then more attention. |
@Simplimus @daraelmin thanks a lot for your support and enthusiasm! :) There’s also other ways of supporting Nextcloud, if you can:
|
I added liberapay to the donate button on the repo (github feature) We already had bountysource Shall we close this issue? |
I tried to set up a yearly pledge of 10Euro on liberapay but it's not possible duo to
Would be nice to see the issue fixed :) Because I love both projects and I would like to support them this way. Until then I'm doing my daily Mundpropaganda about your amazing project and goals. |
The only platform you can use to donate to Nextcloud development right now is Bountysource via: The model of Liberapay doesn’t really work with our broad community, as people apparently need to pick a person where it would go to, or it would prefer people who got around to creating a Liberapay profile. Hence I’ll close this issue. If you want to show your appreciation to the Nextcloud ecosystem, there’s also plenty of 3rdparty app developers who have their paid apps in the stores who deserve support. :) |
Hi guys, Happy New Years ? |
@daraelmin it seems they are aware of the issue and are investigating :) https://twitter.com/niborst/status/1212575844477984768 Thanks for your support (or trying to ;) hopefully it works again soon! |
I just want to mention that Bountysource should not be recommended or used for anything anymore in my opinion. They don't seem to be trustworthy at all. Please read this for some explanations: https://blog.elementary.io/goodbye-bountysource-hello-github-sponsors/.
This is unfortunate that NC won't promote Liberapay as for me personally I really like it and use it to do recurring donations to many different FOSS projects that I use privately or for non-profit organizations. As NC is backed by a for-profit organization I'm fine with this if they feel like it's not worth the effort to maintain a donation platform for small amounts by private users. Still I'm looking for an alternative to Bountysource in order to provide funding for specific issues that I want to see solved. Maybe Issuehunt would be something to look at. Would someone from NC be willing to add the NC repos on that platform so we can use it to place bounties on the existing GitHub issues? |
@jancborchardt @jospoortvliet I'd like to reopen this issue as there is still no platform that covers one or more of the following topics:
Please reconsider Liberapay and/or Issuehunt or if there is no interest in donations and bounties please make a short statement and close this issue. Thanks! |
When this issue was first opened GitHub Sponsors wasn't available. Is there a reason that it can't be tapped now? Seems a perfect solution for non-enterprise, non-standard, or non-paid users to financially support NC. |
Just had someone ask this today. Maybe you could allocate these donations to a specific project. |
I heard developers are machines that turn coffee into code.
Allow me to help you function properly and get you some coffee.
Is there an official way to donate to your cause? I couldn't find any.
Thank you for your outstanding work.
