I felt this should be posted here rather than Discord so it's more permanent and benefits from answers staying listed. I wish to suggest a slightly significant but simple change to how the loadout works: You start with your chosen loadout as always and remain limited to two weapons... but instead of being restricted to picking up ammo just for those guns, you can pick any other gun to replace the ones you started with. What do you think, is there a better way in which this could be changed?
Logically it makes no sense to have this blocker in place: It's not like the player has the weapons they start with glued to their hands and can't get rid of them until respawning, it feels like a virtual and arbitrary limitation left over from before RE implemented consumable ammo. The only argument I'd see against it is obsoleting loadouts, yet I don't think that's a concern either: You still benefit from starting with the two guns of your choice meaning you don't have to rely on your Pistol until you pick up something else after spawning... most importantly you have extra ammo for the starters, replacing them with a new gun would only give you one item worth of ammo meaning you'll run out more quickly and it's a choice that should be made strategically.
Apart from being more logical this would resolve an annoyance I often run into: If you use up your loadout weapons too fast and don't travel to parts of the map containing ammo for them, you can be easily left with just the pistol on some maps which can be a problem... if weapons weren't locked you could pick up a new gun nearby or from dead players to defend yourself in an emergency, without being forced to navigate to a far away area to keep fighting. We could also support consistent weapon dropping to aid teammates who are out of ammo, I doubt many use this feature but I always liked it in other shooters.
This solution would replace the Classic mutator: Currently it allows switching weapons at will like I'm suggesting, but also disables loadouts entirely making you start with just the pistol. I don't often play with Classic as it does two different things at once, I want the ability to swap weapons with ones from the map but also start with my own loadout! With this change the Classic mutator should be renamed No Loadout instead, its only change being that players start with just the Pistol and must pick up other guns from the map... both with and without it though you'd be able to abandon a loadout gun in favor of picking up another.
