Over sensitive #533
Comments
Hi Peter. Looks like that phone doesn't have a gyroscope. There's good
news and bad. The bad is that without a gyroscope Sky Map will fall back
to an older way of determining direction that's just inherently more
jittery. If you're been looking at the diagnostics page you'll have seen
for yourself just how much the magnetic sensor readings jump about so much.
The good news is that this older method already has options to increase the
smoothing level (at the cost of increased lagginess). Go to
settings/sensor settings (experts). I think "Disable gyroscope" will
already have been selected on this phone, but if not, select it and then
you can adjust the sensor speed and damping settings to your satisfaction.
Hope that helps.

Hi ,
On new Oppo A80 phone.
The screen viewing the sky is very jittery, over sensitive, just looking
at the location numbers while phone is flat and still, the are very to
erratic. Can you add an smoothing button can vary how sensitive the screen
is to suit various devices?

I'm having the same issue on a Samsung A55. Even if the phone is lying flat there is heavy jitter. While Gyroscope is saying 0,00,0,00,0,00 compass is still going ±1 very quickly on all three values. It's still very accurate but hurts my eyes to look at the map. So indeed a way to smooth it would be nice. Edit: Just noticed this has been reported already. |
It looks like the A55 does have gyroscope. Is it enabled? (See previous
reply). Even if the compass readings are jittery the gyro should smooth
out the fused sensor readings that Sky Map actually uses.

It's enabled. Disabling it makes the jitter stop but less accurate. It might be an issue with the phone. There is a similar app 'stellaris mobile' that behaves the same way. And one comment in German even says he tested it on an A55 and it's an issue with new sensors. Don't know where he got that information from though. |
Is there any information that I could provide you with to get this resolved? |
