Summary

Strapi Quickstart Guide:

The terminal will invite you to create a Strapi Cloud account and start a free, 14-day trial. Ensure Login/Sign up is selected in the terminal, or use arrow keys to select it, and press Enter.

Not sure if this is intentional, but the way this is worded sounds like it's somehow necessary to choose the Sign Up option. This is misleading, and could be considered a dark design pattern to trick users into signing up for a Cloud trial.

Why is it needed?

Suggested solution(s)

"The terminal offers an option to create a Strapi Cloud account and start a free, 14-day trial. This step is entirely optional. If you wish to use Strapi Cloud, ensure 'Login/Sign up' is selected in the terminal, or use arrow keys to select it and press Enter. Alternatively, you can skip this step and continue with a local setup."

Thank you @Chudroy.

While I get your point of view, the Quick Start Guide (QSG) experience has been specifically designed to shorten the path from project creation to online hosting.

Of course, users are totally free to skip the Strapi Cloud signup and this is documented in this section: https://docs.strapi.io/dev-docs/installation/cli#skipping-the-strapi-cloud-login-step

I won't use the text you suggested for the QSG as it would make parts C and D useless. However:

  • I will add a callout to draw attention to other installation options Edit: It's actually already mentioned in the info block below the first step.
  • FYI the Strapi first-user experience will be refined this year and we'll further update the QSG accordingly.

Thanks again for your feedback. I will now close this issue.
