Using visit-install and the ubuntu24 release tarball for 3.4.2 from here: https://github.com/visit-dav/visit/releases/tag/v3.4.2

I installed and see this when running:

Running: gui3.4.2
Running: viewer3.4.2 -geometry 1560x1080+360+0 -borders 26,4,4,4 -shift 0,0 -preshift 4,26 -defer -host 127.0.0.1 -port 5600
Running: mdserver3.4.2 -host 127.0.0.1 -port 5601
Error opening plugin file: /usr/local/visit/3.4.2/linux-x86_64/plugins/databases/libMMOABDatabase.so (liblapack.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)

Did something happen with moab for the release?

I think our binaries for ubunutu assume a system lapack:

This issue wasn't present for 3.4.1 installs using the ubuntu 22 tarball. I installed that on the same ubuntu 24 system I am using now.

But yes, no lapack on my system.
