Week 45

Noticed that historic meterological data are in GRIB format. Extracting relevant data not trivial. Contacted SMHI for consultation. Tomas suggested a contact which may help with data extraction which he will contact in the beginning of next week. Sampling currently available MESAN-data should start ASAP as an alternative. Next week we focus on sampling of MESAN data and begin to analyze Lantmet data.

Week 46

Have written a sampling method for sampling MESAN data and a function that saves the LANTMET data in the same format. Started to use Galaxy Climate for handling the GRIB data. Next week we will continue with extracting the GRIB data and decide which LANTMET stations to use and during which time periods.

Week 47

Have written a function in Galaxy Climate for converting GRID to .csv files and functions for loading LantMet data from API to .csv files. Have also written a function for saving the data in .csv files into data frames. Next week we will decide which LANTMET stations to use and collect GRIB data for desired coordinates.

Week 48

Have contacted SMHI regarding the possibilities to order data from them. Have examined the data from the LantMet stations and noticed that it is sometimes corrected with data from SMHI. We have also discussed how to analyze and compare the data. Next week we will try to find stations that contains a small amount of SMHI data and also write functions that can clean the LantMet data from SMHI data.

Week 49

A set of reference stations have been chosen and corresponding archived SMHI data have been ordered. Some simple visualisation for monthly data have been added. Otherwise, the work have been primarily focused on the report until SMHI provides the necessary data set which hopefully willl be available next week. We will then focus on producing some results and deal with some course specific preparations(Oral training material).

Tomas

  • I need a readme on how to run the Notebooks.
  • Will give Johan access to database.

Week 50

Have added a wiki page "Documentation" that explains how to execute the notebooks. Have also written code to produce boxplots of the error for all seasons and parameters, diurnal plots of the error for all seasons and parameters, and correlation plots for all parameters. The data from SMHI has been delivered. Two days this week was used to prepare an oral presentation for our oral presentaion training session. Next week we will analyse the data for as many stations as possible.

Week 51

Have created some plots for analysing the data and written on the report. Next week (two days) we will continue analysing data and write on the report.
