The Killer NIC is a currently supported board. It was originally released as a PCI NIC card which offloaded network processing to the Killer NIC, in theory saving some CPU load and accelerating network throughput.
- MPC8343E running at 400MHz on the M1 model and 333MHz on the K1 model.
- 64MB of DDR RAM
- 66MHz PCI bus and 266MHz internal bus on the M1. K1 operates at 133MHz internal bus.
- Requires a 3.3V Mediator, though the card can be modified for 5V only Mediators.
- Requires 13.8 version of the pci.library
Benchmarks show it to be somewhere between a 400-500MHz Sonnet in certain operations. CPU performance is lower than a Sonnet G3/400, due to different reasons such as lack of L2 Cache and 603E core performance versus G3-750 core performance.
In PCI bus traffic performance the Killer NIC is significantly faster.
The Killer NIC has DDR RAM which is the most modern of the supported PPC Accelerators.
