providing a browser installation before installing applications helps the user a lot, epiphany coming from the ubuntu repository is a bit outdated and few people use epiphany. Choosing between browsers can be great for the end user. Problems: - Some proprietary web browsers is not available in Snap Store. - The most majority of Flatpak packaged Browsers not have support a good support for VAAPI, in most cases VAAPI just working in Xorg.
Hi, thanks for your contribution. I think many users find the division between closed and open annoying (and confusing?). I would like to keep them all together and always on the applications page, perhaps under utilities or office |
sorry these commit modify to just a one category |
Sorry, but in that case, would it be better if browsers were placed as a category of the "apps" label? |

Some Flatpaks and Snaps aren't the official package provided by them and are community repackages or wrappers. I would highly discourage having them directly in first setup.
We can always add it to handbook in our browsers guide nonetheless.
In case of the ones like Brave, etc provided officially we can add it under utilities.

The problem I'm thinking about is that some users have complained about too many clicks in the First Setup and adding a page dedicated to browsers could annoy them even more. But adding them in the application list can be a problem because we're going to lengthen the list a lot. Another problem is consistency because all the applications listed now have a specific purpose and there are no alternatives of the same application, here instead we are going to add many browsers creating a bit of confusion. In my opinion the best solutions are:
