To allow the publication of a new version of a published article, the project OJS-de.net contributes code to the OJS core. Changes in published articles can be published in a new version.

- new unpublished article version can be created at the production stage via button
- new versions will contain a copy of all relevant data of the previsous version, except the publication date
- new versions can be edited and published when finished
- changes at the recently published version are allowed - old versions are read only
- each article version has an own article page
- all article versions are linked at the article page as version history
- article pages of old article versions contain an hind and a link to the most recent article version
- issues table of content displays only the current version
- extension of the url structure to display old versions at the frontend
- DOIs
- update plugins and interfaces that use metadata
- display production ready files for each version
- display diffs (compare changes on text level)
- mark major and minor versions (versions could be handled differently e.g. display at home page)
