Wheelmap has many apps and many languages. This document shall help any developer to inform us whenever translations are needed and get them in a timely manner.
It is also a guide for all Sozialhelden on how to get translations done.
Wheelmap use data from the API of Accessibility Cloud. Theses data are translated from Transifex:
- Product manager describes a new feature or change as github issue.
- S/he amends all required text to this issue.
- All text needs to be reviewed by a native speaker beforehand.
- The texts are attached as yml files (EN)
- The latest resource files (EN) that are merged and used in the wheelmap project are located here:
- https://github.com/sozialhelden/wheelmap/blob/master/config/locales/en/categories.yml
- https://github.com/sozialhelden/wheelmap/blob/master/config/locales/en/ember.yml
- https://github.com/sozialhelden/wheelmap/blob/master/config/locales/en/relaunch.yml
- https://github.com/sozialhelden/wheelmap/blob/master/config/locales/en/wheelmap.yml
- The latest resource files (EN) that are merged and used in the wheelmap project are located here:
- Product manager edits the resource files (EN) directly in the editor (e.g. via www.atom.io or www.sublimetext.com) and either sends them to the developers or uploads them to a Github issue
- The developers review the updated keys and translations of the resource files (EN) and confirm they are technically okay
- The updated resource files are to be uploaded to Transifex by the product manager
- Volunteers translate files on transifex:
- The product manager ensures the translations are done and comments on the issue as soon as this happened
- After the notification that the translations are done the developer creates the new feature with the given new strings (pulled from transifex).
- In case new strings come up, this is discussed in the comments section of the issue directly.
- The developer deploys the version on staging for final review
- PM gives ok
- developer deploys live.
At least news.wheelmap.org is a WP site. Wheelmap is a Ruby Webapp "merged" in the WP site.
TODO: Explain how to translate this part of Wheelmap.
- Product Manager describes new feature for developer
- with new text in English (verified by native speaker)
- with app update description in English (and German) (for Android: https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/189724 )
- Mobile Developer creates a new feature which requires new strings
- Developer (Raphael) emails new strings in source language (English) to silke and CC Jonas + Svenja
- Silke reviews source language strings and emails reviewed/corrected file to Svenja and Jonas
- Svenja and Jonas update the source language file in Transifex & inform translators about changes
- Volunteers translate files on transifex:
- Volunteers have some time (24h? 2 weeks?) to work
- Missing translations of the most important languages (?) are ordered for pay via Transifex and completed within 1-2 days. When ordering translations, a certain briefing is included: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1nwz6ImUH31CKaaTR7ITyiwf85v-o_womDMwepQTES-4/edit?usp=sharing
- Svenja or Jonas review the ordered translations.
- Svenja emails developer (Raphael) that translations are complete and ready to use in transifex
- developer implements strings into app and deploys new beta version
- Sozialhelden test the new beta and give green light to developers
- developers deploys app live
