PolkaGate MetaMask Snap: Enhancing User Experience with Integrated Token Management and Staking Features

Project Abstract

This application seeks funding for the next phase of the PolkaGate MetaMask Snap, aiming to introduce additional features and functionality in PolkaMask: Polkadot with Metamask, milestone 1

PolkaGate MetaMask Snap is a Polkadot ecosystem solution designed to give users full control over their Polkadot tokens directly within MetaMask. As the only Polkadot Snap listed in the MetaMask Snap directory, it provides seamless integration for managing Polkadot and Kusama assets. Initially launched as a signer with a minimal UI, PolkaGate MetaMask Snap now adds key functionalities, including staking and fund transfers, directly within the Snap itself. Previously dependent on dApps for these features, this update brings staking (both solo and pooled) and the ability to transfer funds between Polkadot chains, all within the MetaMask extension.

In this next phase, the focus will be on further refining the interface, adding support for new token types, and streamlining the onboarding process for new users. By leveraging the widespread usage of MetaMask, PolkaGate MetaMask Snap will also serve as a bridge to onboard Ethereum users into the Polkadot ecosystem, providing them with a familiar interface to seamlessly interact with Polkadot and Kusama assets. These upgrades will ensure that PolkaGate MetaMask Snap offers a complete non-custodial wallet experience, providing a unified and efficient interaction within the MetaMask extension without the need for external applications. The Snap will continue to serve as a vital tool for Polkadot and Kusama ecosystem participants and developers, enhancing the overall usability and accessibility of these blockchains.
