Compatibility
NomNom currently runs only on Windows officially. All systems that .NET 6 is available on should work. All detailed overview is available here.
You may be able to use it on Linux as well with a corresponding compatibility layer like Wine and Proton. The default directory for Steam should also be properly detected if you use NomNom on your SteamDeck.
.NET 6 can be downloaded directly from the official Microsoft website.
Generally NomNom should work with all versions of No Man's Sky. As this project started when Beyond/Synthesis were around the lowest officially support version is Beyond 2.11 but all older version can still be edited via the built-in JSON editor.
See the JSON Editor section for more information how to use it.
Keep in mind that any new update can potentially break something small or big as seen with Waypoint 4.00. Depending on the size it can take a while until NomNom gets adapted to those changes.
Updates to the database also depend on the MBINCompiler. If it is not updated for a new update, do not expect a updated database with all the new items either.
Each game version is also using its own database with parameters and items that were available at that time.
Some features are also tailored to the game version. For example are Planetary Settlements only available for saves created with Frontiers 3.60 or newer.
Almost every platform No Man's Sky is available on is directly supported by NomNom as you can see in the list below.
All platforms on PC have a default location that is checked automatically at start and added to a list you can choose from (check Manager to see how it looks) if it has save data.
Even if not in a default location the file(s) in it needs to have a specific name (pattern) to be properly detected.
To get saves from a console to your PC you may have to jailbreak it and use homebrew software. There are links to compatible homebrew software but no further assistance will be provided.
The list below gives you more details about each platform and its specifications:
-
GOG.com (PC)
- Location: %AppData%\HelloGames\NMS\DefaultUser
- File Patterns: save*.hg
-
PlayStation 4
- File Patterns: memory.dat, savedata*.hg
- Notes: There are a few options to do this. The only one that does not require homebrew is SaveWizard. Two other tools that are confirmed working are Save Mounter and Apollo but require homebrew. Results of other tools may or may not work but the code is as generic as possible.
-
PlayStation 5
- Notes: This version of the game is not supported due to restrictions on the console itself. By playing the PlayStation 4 version on it, you can still save edit with a few additional steps.
-
Steam (PC)
- Location: %AppData%\HelloGames\NMS\st_<SteamID>
- File Patterns: save*.hg
-
Microsoft Store (PC)
- Location: %LocalAppData%\Packages\HelloGames.NoMansSky_bs190hzg1sesy\SystemAppData\wgs\<XboxID>_29070100B936489ABCE8B9AF3980429C
- File Patterns: containers.index
- Notes: Reloading of modified saves while the game is running does not work.
- Nintendo Switch
-
Xbox One/Series X|S
- Notes: Not directly supported but can easily achieved with cloud sync via the Microsoft Store. The synchronization is triggered short after you close the game (no need to load a save).
